Well Water Filter Tips and Tricks

Well owners are often advised to use a filtration system to help treat their water before it ever reaches their cup. A water filter is the only way, aside from boiling your water, to ensure that your water is free of contaminants and excess minerals. So, it should come as no surprise that the majority of well owners, new and old, use some kind of water filtration system fir their well. It’s great for new well owners to understand their water systems, and even seasoned well owners can learn something new.

Get Tested

We always stress the importance of well water testing. And before picking out your water filter, it’s an absolutely crucial step to first get your water professionally tested. This way, you know exactly what’s in your water, and what you should be doing in terms of filtering. Continuous, yearly well testing will ensure that you’re always doing what’s best for the health and safety of your water.

Go with the Flow of your Water

When picking out your filter, be sure to consider the specific needs of your water. Consider what contaminants are in your water. In other words, consider what exactly you need to filter out. Do you need a whole house filtration system? An under the sink filtration system? No one filter is perfect for every well, every home, and every situation. Fit your filter to your water.

Whole House Filtration

The thing that’s great about whole house filtration systems is that there’s just one system to worry about for the whole of the house. However, that can oftentimes be a problem in itself. We recommend cleaning and flushing out the system every once in a while to ensure everything is clean- especially if the system goes unused for a few days.

Under Sink Filtration

For those of you looking for an under the sink filtration system, we highly recommend getting one without a storage tank. Nowadays, most models don’t have one, but there are still some out there. Storage tanks simply give more chance for unwanted bacteria growth, and can be bulky under your sink.

Wea also recommend a filter with about 3-5 stages. More filters do not always mean better filtration, and you’ll often just end up wasting money replacing systems with 20 different filter stages.

The Faulstick Difference

Water filters are an incredibly important asset to well owners, being the main thing between consumers and dysentery. Kidding. Sort of. But they are an almost critical part of well ownership that in the end, are pretty specific from well owner to well owner. When choosing a filter, consider your specific well water needs, and monitor your filter to ensure that it’s doing its job!
